Miele Tips: Caring for Your Washing Machine and Dryer

Care that extends the life of your Miele appliance

Miele washing machines and dryers are known for their durability — tested for up to 20 years of use. But even the highest-quality appliance needs regular care. Below are tips based on Miele's official maintenance recommendations.

Washing machine

  • Machine cleaning program — Miele recommends regularly cleaning the drum at a high temperature. Run the dedicated machine-clean program or a cottons program at 90 °C (optionally with a towel). The appliance notifies you when cleaning is due.
  • Detergent drawer — remove and wash it with warm water and mild detergent; powder and softener deposits cause odours.
  • TwinDos / UltraPhase — periodically rinse the automatic-dosing reservoirs per the instructions; use genuine Miele products for fewer deposits.
  • Water inlet filter — the mesh at the inlet hose connection can clog with limescale and debris; clean it as needed.
  • Rubber door seal (gasket) — after every wash wipe it and remove leftover water and lint to prevent mould.
  • Drain filter — behind the flap at the bottom; check and clean it occasionally (coins, buttons, lint).
  • Miele care products — IntenseClean thoroughly degreases and refreshes the washing machine interior.
  • Leave the door and drawer ajar — after washing, so the drum dries and stale smells are avoided.

    • Tumble dryer (heat pump)

  • Lint filter — clean it **after every cycle**; a clean filter means faster drying and lower consumption.
  • Heat exchanger / heat-pump filters — on heat-pump models, rinse them per the manufacturer's instructions every few months.
  • Condensate tank — empty it after every dry (unless the unit is plumbed to a drain).
  • Moisture sensors — wipe the metal sensors in the drum so they measure humidity accurately.
