5 Tips for Properly Installing a Washing Machine
Why is proper washing machine installation important?
A washing machine is one of the most frequently used household appliances. Improper installation can cause serious problems — from water leaks to floor damage and costly repairs. Here are five key things you need to know.
1. Level positioning is crucial
The washing machine must stand perfectly level. Even a few millimetres of tilt causes increased vibrations, noise and premature wear of the drum and bearings. Use a spirit level and adjust the feet as needed.
2. Transit bolts must be removed
Every new washing machine comes with transit bolts that secure the drum for transport. If you forget to remove them, the drum cannot rotate freely — this causes extreme vibrations and can permanently damage the appliance.
3. The inlet and drain must be correct
Water inlet hoses require appropriate pressure (min. 0.05 MPa, max. 1 MPa). The drain hose must be correctly positioned at a height of 60–90 cm from the floor.
4. The electrical outlet must be earthed
Washing machines operate at 230V and must be connected to a properly earthed socket with a minimum 10A fuse.
5. Space around the washing machine
The washing machine needs at least 5 cm of free space on the sides and back for ventilation.
